Hilton Head Island has seven fire stations serving the island.
Our line personnel are divided across three shifts that work 24 hours on and 48 hours off. Each day there are a total of 29 on-duty personnel who make up the fire suppression companies, rescues, and special teams of the fire department.
Three additional personnel are assigned to an Engine and Medic unit referred to as the Coverage Crew. This crew works 4-10 hour days to supplement normal daily resources during daytime hours when our calls for assistance are the greatest. The Coverage Crew also covers fire stations when the primary Engine and Medic units are out of area due an incident, training or other activities.
All on-duty personnel are under the supervision of a Battalion Chief. The Battalion Chief is on duty for 24-hour periods and is responsible for directing all operations and emergencies.
